A minivan collects you from your hotel in the city. The parks pool guests by area, so expect a few more stops before you head out. Morning rounds are the most popular, and in the cool season we recommend them, the mountain air is fresh and the light is beautiful.
Booked a zipline, or thinking about it, and wondering what the day actually looks like? Here is the honest timeline. The five mountain parks all run to roughly the same rhythm, so this guide fits whichever of them you pick. (Phoenix, the walk-in family park near town, is the exception: no pickup rounds, no fixed schedule, just turn up.)
Pong Yang is about 40 minutes up the Mae Rim to Samoeng road. Skyline, Kingkong Smile and Jungle Flight are about an hour into the Doi Saket mountains. Either way the last stretch is winding mountain road, so if you get car sick, claim the front seat and skip the phone.
At the park you sign in, and this is where age and weight limits are checked, they are real and the staff do enforce them. The guides fit your helmet, harness and gloves, then run the safety briefing: how to sit, how to hold, how to brake where braking applies, and the hand signals. Ask anything here. The guides do this every day and they would rather answer twice than have you nervous on the platform.
Every park starts you on short, low lines so your body learns the feeling before the big stuff. Two guides work each group, one clips you out at the start, one catches you at the far platform, and you are attached to a safety line every second you are off the ground.
Then the course builds. Longer lines, higher platforms, sky bridges between the trees. Whichever park you chose, there is one moment that is the reason you came: the 1,200 metre crossing at Kingkong Smile, the 900 metre line at Skyline, the coaster rail at Jungle Flight, or the jungle coaster at Pong Yang. Nerves before the first line are completely normal. Nobody remembers the nerves afterwards.
Every mountain park feeds you, and properly: a Thai buffet at Skyline, cooked lunches at Kingkong Smile, Jungle Flight and Sky Hawk, lunch or a coffee set at Pong Yang. Sitting down to khao soi in the mountain air after two hours in the trees is half the memory.
The van drops you back at your hotel by mid afternoon, in time for a shower and a rest before the night market. Total door to door: five to seven hours depending on the park and the package.
1. Wear closed-toe shoes. Every park requires them, and flip-flops will get you sent to the rental bin. 2. Bring insect repellent. These are real forests, especially in the green season. 3. You do not need to be fit or brave. The guides do the work, gravity does the rest. Guests from 6 to 60 ride these courses every single day.
